All of Me, a McRaidy Son is a wonderful and emotionally gripping novel that I had a tough time putting down. What struck me the most was the very realistic storyline…

Hot Summer Romance Giveaway Hop from July 18 - 21! Win a free e-book from me and much more!

Ahhh, Love at First Sight.
Is it real or is it a perception?

We could scientifically break it down and at the end, decide the logics don’t fit our scenario, but let’s explore my Love at First sight encounter.

Think about love, it’s an intimacy of your soul. The person you are in love with make you feel a physical reaction. Maybe its excitement or sensuality or even a twisting of your nerves because you were unprepared to have such a visceral response.

I don’t know if it was love at first sight but my eyes locked gazes with a man, the one I’m utterly devoted to, and that experience we all read about happened to me. The sounds of the cold fall day and the other people talking faded into a background hum. His eyes, they were alive with personality. I shook his hand and my body physically responded. I knew that the touch of his skin on mine was something I’d never forget.

All the general things we experience with an immediate attraction were there. He was gorgeous, well built, stunning smile, smooth voice and a perfect hair cut but his eyes….I couldn’t stop staring. There was almost a centrifugal force pushing me toward him and I had no control.

We had our first “interlude” that very night and it was perfect. No nervousness, not a bit of self-consciousness, and it was all about us…several times…oh my!

He never left my mind the days after. What was supposed to be just a good time, didn’t end. I wanted him with my heart like no other. Almost four years later, I still have the same response to him and I swear there is no more masculine, handsome man out there. He spoils me, brings me the sweetest little gifts, tells me how beautiful and sexy I am and I love it and him!

My logical conclusion is it may be gripping attraction that grows to a profound love.
My romantic heart’s conclusion, “Oh yeah baby, just like that!”

What about you? Love at First sight or is there a logic to it? Share, tell me. I’m dying to know!

Review of One Bad Day by Edie Hart

One Bad Day by Edie Hart is a fun little novella. There was chemistry between the hero and heroine but the real fun was the culmination of the suspense. The title of the book, One Bad Day nailed the story line right on the nose! I admit a cringed a couple of times since a few things weren't as believable or realistic as I’d like. The good part about Ms. Hart’s writing is, those couple of incidents didn't throw me out of the story. I enjoyed how the suspense was layered throughout the story and it brought out the…Well who is it?? Ms. Hart has a definite talent for suspense.

I’d also like to comment on the cover. It was hot and really displayed the story. The artist truly captured the book.

Overall, I believe Ms. Hart’s debut book, One Bad Day to be a well-crafted story and I look forward to watching Edie Hart continue to provide readers with more books.

My walk to being a published author.

Hmm. Most times that's the only response I have to various situations. I am the type of person who fundamentally believes that there isn't a lot I can do to stop something that is inevitable or change the past by dwelling on it. I will caveat that by saying there are situations that compel me to speak up. I did that this week and continued to ponder my thoughts on being an author.

In doing so, I refreshed my mind with re-reading a few blogs, stopping by some outstanding authors sites, and thought about my own road trip as an author. Interestingly enough, I'm not alone in my experiences.

  • Writing a book is only part of the journey. It's fulfilling but you have to ask yourself, am I satisfied in my soul or do I want more for this creation.
  • On to publishing. Do you find an agent first or do you submit to a publisher on your own? I opted for direct submission to a publisher. I write spicy romance but many of my stories are not "in the box" so to speak. My version of HEA or HFN tends to be a bit different in some manuscripts. But, my stories are character driven and they decide. What am to do?? LOL
  • Once the prospective publisher is chosen, you read every detail of their submission guidelines and write the infamous "Synopsis". Authors know what this important summary is and for readers, it is the heart of the entire book. Nothing is held back and every hook is given away. Now the balancing act begins. Most houses don't want you to submit the same manuscript to them and half a dozen others. Their reasoning is justifiable. They take the time to review your work and if they offer a contract, they don't want to be bounced around while the author waits around for a different offer. This process can take a few weeks to months so what do you do?
  • Write another book while you wait. Once you get a contract, you will want to have more to offer as time goes.
  • Shazam! You get an offer to publish your book! This is one of the best feelings I've had as an author. It is a gold star moment! You read through the contract and sign it. If you use a pseudonym like I do, you make sure that's the name you want to use. Authors have various reasons for a pen name. Mine is because of the type of work I do in my job as well as the genre of my books. I have eroticism in my books and felt that a separation of sorts would be best for my situation. My chosen pseudo is a derivative of my name and I like it.
  • Once your release date is set, it becomes difficult to focus back on writing a new story but I did. Then I got the cover. Holy crap! It was perfect! I was in love. LOL
  • Next come the edits. This was an eye opening moment for me. I expected a few changes but the colored lines and words of correction nearly catapulted me into a seizure. Did I really dangle participles that much? I worked through them and as I got to the end of the book, a small note from my editor sent a rush of goosebumps over my skin. She loved my book and brought her to tears. Dang! It was awesome.
  • The book gets published and somewhere inside I realized I was in an abyss. I had no idea how to know if my book sold, if it did, how many and how did that equate to my royalties. Since I get my check each quarter, I wouldn't see anything for six months. Once quarter one is done, all the proceeds are sent to my publisher who then pays me at the end of the second quarter.During the mean time, I read all my reviews, good and bad. Watched the various rankings at the different sales outlets and I still wasn't quite sure. I expected that my friends and family would swarm all over my book but as supportive as they were, they didn't clean the electronic shelves. I've found that is frequent for a good deal of authors and I'm okay with it. Authors write what they know, and I write books with sex in them. Two plus two equals four. LOL
  • Promoting myself was tough. Bragging without being a nuisance is a careful line. It's a balance of getting your book out there but still giving something back. Whether a free book or a heartfelt blog. Something. I run into from promoting authors that by now is their lack of effort in giving me something in return for my interest so I just hit delete when I see their post on a loop. There are others that give me a wonderful tease and I pop to their site to check out their book as well as see what they have to say.I buy from those that peaked my interest with their blurb, cover art and what they blogged about. Its a combination for me to spend my money as a reader. I've found those authors who gave back to me usually had awesome books.
  • Then, the first check finally arrived. I was less interested in the dollar amount as I was in the sales report. I didn't sell enough to quit my day job but I wasn't disappointed. Let me break out here for a moment. The one thing I quickly realized was the investment my publisher had made in me at this point. I didn't pay for the professional edits, beautiful cover or any of the electronic formatting. All those lovely people received a share of the proceeds with me and I knew it was far less a cut than I received. It wasn't until much later that I actually understood that a good cover is several hundreds of dollars not including paying for the model on the cover as well as the value of the edits. The formatting isn't cheap either. All total, my publisher easily invested $1,500-$2,000 dollars in me for one book. I'll admit, I felt anxious. Would I be worth the investment?
  • Over time, I released several more books and am still happy with my house. I love that phrase, "my house". I did dabble with another publisher but I didn't click with their style and I've also received emails from others asking me to submit. I contemplate it but when I look at their site, or their authors blogs, I opt against it. I value the professionalism and relationship with my publisher.
  • To conclude my perception of the road of being an author, I can summarize a few things. It's the a long walk, not a sprint for building readership. Sales ebb and flow but I still have my day job. I've met some truly outstanding individuals who are authors with spectacular books.I appreciate the investment "my house" makes in me. My long walk is going well and so is that of many of my author friends. I wish them well and they do me also. It's a wonderful community to be involved with.Oh and I still get lots of edits but I'm getting better...so my editor say anyway!

Stop by and comment if you have a chance. Take a look around Venus's site while you're there. She's awesome!

Here is what she had to say:
This is the first book by Em Epe that I’ve read but I can guarantee it won’t be the last! Her skill with bringing to life the almost gritty, completely real Den McRaidy has me already looking forward to the next story.......

We've made it easy because we Love our Readers!

Welcome to my Valentine's blog today!

I took a bit of time to think about my favorite thing about Valentine’s Day and the romance that is usually associated with it. There were the long ago memories of being a kid and waiting for the teacher to let us dive into the bags or boxes of small valentine cards. Those that attached candy were the best. Of course, there was the secret hope that one of the cute boys had written a secret message professing love. It never happened that way, I mean after all, we were nine.

As I aged, the romantic expectations faded and it became more of a reminder to express my affection to my romantic partner. UNTIL Stud man! He takes romance very seriously. I am blessed with a variety of candies, a wonderful card with a sweet message scrawled inside and a delicious meal. As I plan my display of affection this year, it reminded me of a past Valentine’s Day I wanted to share with you. I didn’t come across very well with my drama queen moment but I’ve improved since then.

It was the Saturday before Valentine’s day, I was overly tired and feeling defeated that I gained a few pounds over winter and it was still too cold to do much outside. Disgusted and pouting I plopped in the middle of the couch and focused on playing battleship on the Xbox. Whining to my man as he watched about us eating too much red meat, I want to become a vegetarian and if I had a bicycle all my problems would be solved.

My Stud teased me a little, kept giving me a kiss or squeeze and patiently tolerated my snippy comments, crappy attitude, and general bad behavior. As I’m regaling him about the unfairness placed on women’s weight, he grabbed the car keys and casually stated he was going for a haircut. I nearly hissed at him over abandoning me in my time of need.

Now keep in mind he goes every week to the same barber and gets a haircut. He is picky about his hair and always has been. It’s one of my favorite things about him. A haircut shouldn’t have come as any surprise to me but at that moment, the fact that he was going for a haircut and I was moody without a bicycle sent me over the top and into self-pity. (I really should have slept in that morning; it had been a long week with a ton of overtime) I got teary eyed, left the living room, and sniffled my way to the bathroom to sulk.

I finished with my pout about a minute later and decided I really needed a nap. With my tail between my legs, I slinked out of the bathroom. I glanced around and then I saw the front door wide open and no one in sight. I stomped to the door and shoved it shut. I stomped to the couch and plopped myself down again all the while loudly giving my opinion of my Studs manners since he left the door open.

Not a minute later, Woosh the door opened and in a loud racket, my gorgeous loving man set my brand new bicycle down and smiled, "Happy Valentine’s Day Baby!"

I sobbed and hugged him while I apologized for being such a hag. He explained he knew I wanted a bike and bought it the night before. He hid it at the neighbors to wait for Valentine’s Day but decided I needed it today. I adore him for that and I took a ride, then a nap and was much more pleasant for the rest of the weekend.

The moral to my little recitation is this...even though it isn't brand new love, romance comes in all sorts of ways. To some a bicycle for Valentine’s Day may not be the perfect romantic gift but my man knew it was for me. That is what romance is all about, knowing what makes your partner tingle. The important thing for us to remember is it goes both ways. I think our partners like a little attention too.

Everyone enjoy their Valentine’s Day and a romantic read!

Lots of Love
Em
